Seasons

Instrumentation: Song cycle for contralto and piano

Duration:  20 minutes

Year of Composition: 2017

Premiere: Fall 2018

Program Notes:

Seasons was composed for contralto Samantha Stiner and pianist Gregory DiBona. The song cycle consists of five songs, settings of some of my favorite poems relating in one way or another to the seasons of the year: Round the Year by Coventry Patmore, Autumn by Alexander L. Posey, Winter by John Frederick Freeman, The Enkindled Spring by D.H. Lawrence, and A Summer's Night by Paul Laurence Dunbar.  The songs should be performed in order, but the performers may choose which song to start with (in October you may choose to begin or end with Autumn, for example).
