Program Notes:

Reminiscentia was commissioned by the Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA), and the piece was premiered at the CSMTA annual conference in Greeley, Colorado, on June 1, 2018, by the Dynamix String Quartet.  This piece is about memories, particularly those of people who are gone or places that are missed. Though I generally like to be vague with my titles, “Reminiscentia” refers to “an inducer of reminiscence”; an object, a picture, a smell, etc., bringing on a flood of memories and emotions, both good and bad.  The main musical idea from the third movement had been around for several years, since the death of my long-time composition teacher and mentor, Richard Toensing, to whom the movement is dedicated.
